Bupa International, the world’s largest expatriate health insurer, has joined forces with the international charity, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), to raise money for people with HIV/AIDS in Kenya and those with malaria in Sierra Leone.

To launch the new partnership, Bupa International is making an initial donation of £15,000 to MSF. A further £5,000 will be raised for the charity over the course of the next year by Bupa International’s employees in Brighton, Miami and Copenhagen. This money will then be fund matched by Bupa, as a part of its Community Connections charitable giving programme, bringing the company’s total donation in the first year to £25,000.

Tim Slee, global sales director, Bupa International, explained the rationale behind the new charitable partnership: “At Bupa International, we look after the healthcare of almost 800,000 expats in some 190 countries worldwide. We want to support a charity which shares our healthcare focus and has an international presence. It’s also important that our employees can get involved with our partner charity at a number of levels to maximise staff participation. MSF, as an international humanitarian medical aid organisation, is the perfect match.”

James Kliffen, head of fundraising at MSF, commented: “We provide healthcare and medical training to populations in more than 60 countries, often in war-torn countries or those facing endemic disease. The donations we receive are invaluable in helping some of the most afflicted and marginalised people in the world. We’re delighted to be supported by Bupa, and and look forward to working together with Bupa International in the coming months.”
